PAIDEIA SCHOOL-Atlanta, GA

7th and 8th Grade Lit and Writing Homebase teacher, 2016-2021

  • Taught intensive essay writing skills to seventh and eighth-grade students

  • Instructed students on how to read challenging texts closely and analytically

  • Showed students how to translate close reads of texts into cogent written and verbal analyses

PACIFIC RIDGE SCHOOL—Carlsbad, CA

Grade-Level Dean, 2012-2016

  • Led team of 8th-grade teachers in student support and curriculum development to design and implement 21st-century teaching practices.

  • Tracked student growth and progress through weekly student support meetings and communicated with parents, teachers, school psychologist, and learning specialist to individualize social and emotional support

  • Led parent/teacher meetings to address learning differences and ensure that accommodations were in place—coached teachers on how to implement modifications to support students

  • Headed weekly teacher meetings to design interdisciplinary curriculum that reflected 21st century pedagogy including STEAM and design thinking

11th and 12th Grade English

  • Launched 11th/12th-grade Rhetoric class, a writing composition course where students used theoretical lenses to analyze text and hone their analytical writing skills in preparation for college

  • In addition to literary analysis, coached students to write personal statements and essays for college admissions

  • The upper school Rhetoric class became so popular after the first year that it grew from one to four sections due to success of writing curriculum

  • Taught my writing curriculum to colleagues in high school English and history departments to standardize writing methodology across disciplines

  • Created and directed the Academic Coaching Center to meet the individualized academic needs of over fifty students in the 7th-10th grades

  • Created specific action plans and strategies to help meet the individualized learning needs of students

  • Worked with students one-on-one to implement learning strategies and maximize academic success

  • Facilitated all IEP meetings and disseminated accommodations and strategies to teachers in junior high and high school

 

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO HIGH SCHOOL—South San Francisco, CA

Sophomore-Level Head, 2006-2008:  Served as the Curriculum Head for the 10th grade English and history teachers.

  • Maintained standards-based benchmarks and assessments throughout sophomore-level English classes

  • Conducted regular meetings with English teachers to ensure that our lesson and unit plans were aligned with the California Content Standards

  • Co-authored curriculum for high-stakes, interdepartmental English and history project

  • High School English Teacher, 2005-2008.  Taught 10th and 11th grade English at the Honors, College Prep, and General levels

 

PHILLIP AND SALA BURTON HIGH SCHOOL—San Francisco, CA

High School English Teacher, 2004-2005.  Taught 10th, 11th, and 12th grade English to at-risk students. Received an academic scholarship to teach English at a low-income, state-sanctioned school in San Francisco; worked with U.C. Berkeley’s Bay Area Writing Project to develop writing curriculum designed to meet the needs of at-risk students; raised test scores for class with the highest concentration of at-risk students
