About Me
I knew that I wanted to be an educator from the time I was in high school. Ever since I had an epiphany whilst jumping on a trampoline in my childhood backyard, I have relentlessly pursued my calling of empowering and inspiring students through a transformative educational experience. After graduating from U.C. Berkeley with an English degree, I have taught students in grades 7-12 at public and private schools.

My foray into academic coaching for students with executive functioning issues began in 2010 when I was hired as a learning specialist and academic coach at a prestigious private school in coastal Southern California. I launched the Academic Coaching Center where I led a team of teachers in designing individualized plans and lessons for students who needed extra help with the nuts and bolts of being a strong student: time management, study skills, organizational strategies, and habit formation. I loved witnessing students rediscover their love of learning as they internalized the habits of being a strong student.

I also developed and taught college-level writing courses for juniors and seniors in high school that focused on research, academic writing, and the personal essay for college applications. My students walked away feeling that it was one of the most useful and empowering courses in their high school career.

I have most recently been teaching literature and writing at the Paideia School in Atlanta.

I have over sixteen years of experience in teaching, administration, and academic coaching for junior high and high school students.

The Gandhi quote is one of my favorites because as a tutor and an academic coach, I help students through the messy, awkward yet deeply rewarding struggle of achieving their goals as writers, thinkers, and scholars.

Kelly provided the right amount of support for my capable child. She took the time to read through his previous written work and create a customized instructional plan to meet his individualized needs. Most importantly, my child enjoyed spending time with Kelly and found her instruction helpful and supportive.
Paideia School Parent
Kelly has been an amazing teacher for our daughter. She has learned so much and is really a better person because of the time she spent with Kelly. We are so thankful for Kelly's commitment and dedication to our daughter's growth as a student--she has a true gift.

Kelly's writing coaching helped me gain confidence in my ability to write essays. She provided me with essay organizers and in-depth coaching that helped me understand how to write an essay from start to finish. I feel prepared for college-level writing after working with her. I also saw a significant jump in my grades after receiving academic coaching. She is also really fun to work with. I look forward to our tutoring sessions.
